BRAVE DOG TALES
US Memorial Day, Monday, May 26 2008
A few months ago, I was gob-smacked by the cover artwork of the 1931 book by Eleanor Fairchild Pease called Brave Tales of Real Dogs, (artwork by R.J. Rice throughout the book). My own copy has an inscription in child’s handwriting on the inside cover which reads (all lower case, no caps) “merry xmas to raymond from emily.” I wonder who Emily and Raymond were, and are they alive today? Which story was their favorite? Did they have a dog, and what breed?
Rin Tin Tin, Lassie, Ole Yeller, and Toto are movie heroes, ever loyal and non-judgemental. The parade of puppies in Barney Beagle each match the look and style of their new owners. Barney demonstrates how to be patient and handle rejection gracefully until the right one comes along. The Brave Dog Tales (BDT ) blog and my product designs are inspired by the nostalgia these wonderful tales make me feel, and by dogs I know, which you are fortunate to be able to meet on these pages.
Thank you for visiting my site and ‘speak!’ up with comments and ideas.
Best,
Maureen
